Resume writing guidelines

Your resume is a marketing tool.  It is your advertisement to employers about yourself and it needs to be inviting to read.  The time employers will spend reading your resume will usually be less than a minute and it should follow certain guidelines.

Use bullets rather than a narrative format.
Most employers prefer seeing your GPA on your resume, even if it is low. If you don't list it, many employers will assume that it is low. You can explain why you have a lower GPA, and recruiters realize there may be legitimate reasons for this. Often, activities and leadership experience can support a lower GPA.
Resume statements should contain complete, concise examples of your work.
Minimize the number of relevant courses on your resume. Consider a "Projects" section which details activities (research, presentations to class, writing projects) accomplished in relevant courses.
