The
experts from Career Services and the Learning Resource Center have joined
forces to offer a hands on resume writing workshop. Bring your resume on
disk and a job description to practice useful tips on content and
formatting. |

Have
you already written a resume but don't like it? Does it need a little
work? Does it make you stand out? Bring your resume to this workshop where
you'll get advice on how to strengthen its marketing power! You will learn
the common mistakes people make when writing a resume and get your
questions answered in a group setting. Sessions will be held in the
Career Services office (SSV Room 329), maximum of 15 per session.

Portfolios are becoming an important tool that give people
"an edge" over the competition. This workshop covers the various types and uses of the portfolio as well as the multiple ways you can use it to present your skills in an interview. This will be a lively interactive session to help you
"collect, select and reflect" on what to use when building your
own portfolio! If you don’t know where to start or what to include - or simply want to improve what you’ve already started, this is the workshop for you! |

to know how to make your resume and cover letter beat the competition and
get you an interview? This workshop will show you how to market yourself
so you stand out above the rest. Learn how to write strong statements that
focus on valuable skills you’ve gained from all of your experiences:
Part-time/full-time jobs, volunteer work, class projects, student
organizations, etc. |

This workshop will
describe the nuances that distinguish it from a resume. You will also see examples
of a vita, and learn when a vita is preferred over a resume. This workshop is
especially appropriate for, but not limited to, graduate students who are preparing for
positions within higher education and research. |

Ready to refine your
own resume? Need to know how to make it a stronger marketing tool? Want to know how to use
your resume to best prepare for an interview? This workshop is intended for those
individuals who have developed a resume and have previously either attended the
"Resume Writing" workshop, or have discussed the basics of creating a resume
with a career advisor. You will be given an opportunity to revise your own resume based on
the feedback you will get from career advisors and other members in the group. Remember to
bring a copy of your resume and a specific job description! |

workshop will explain the importance and value of community service as it
relates to resume writing, interview preparation and networking. It will
explain how the element of community service can be used as a practical
tool in all phases of the job search process. |
