There is no right or wrong way to recruit at a career fair, and no magic formula for finding the best candidates for your positions instantly. However, there are best practices to maximize your success at university career fairs.
Make sure you are seen.
Don’t limit yourself by sitting or standing behind your table. Remove the barrier between you and candidates by standing in front of the table, ready to extend a handshake to students walking by your booth.
Attend all days of the fair.
A common misconception is that the first day of a fair has the highest traffic. At ASU however, all three days see similar traffic, if not higher attendance on the second and third days. Students find time to attend career fairs between class, part-time jobs and extracurricular activities. For the best chance to meet candidates, make sure your organization is present for the duration of the fair.
Send the right people.
When you come to ASU, you have the opportunity to recruit a diverse student population from hundreds of degree programs. Attending a career fair allows you to showcase the different positions your organization has available so you can fill all of your talent needs. As we shared in a previous edition of our ASU Employer Connection newsletter, it is important to send representatives that can speak about the breadth of positions available at your organization. Bonus points if your representatives are alumni, as they can share their campus-to-career story!
4. Maximize your recruiting trip
You’ve made it! You’re out of the office and visiting a university campus. Make the most of your visit by scheduling on-campus recruiting activities around the career fair. Have an information session during the evening after the fair, interview students on campus, or host a student club meeting. Use your attendance at the fair to build interest and excitement around your other recruitment activities.
