Black Theatre Organization’s Mission is to address issues affecting and impacting our African American/Black theatre students. We want to be able to use art to encourage social consciousness, as well as cultural awareness. We blend African American/Black cultural legacy with contemporary artistic genre. We would like to push beyond the borders of “traditional” theatre asserting ourselves as a distinctive voice in the up and coming generation while creating community and sense of belonging. Although we are an African American/Black Theatre focused Organization, we do not discriminate, and welcome all who are interested in exploring more of our culture, with the knowledge that we will be focusing on our history in theatre and community building.

Our purpose is to serve, support and educate the African American/Black theatre community as well as all other communities while elevating knowledge and promoting unity among all ASU organizations, students, faculty and staff.
