On September 16, ASU Career & Professional Development Services hosted its inaugural Global Careers & Opportunities Resource Fair where we hosted representatives from the Embassy of Canada, Canada Arizona Business Council, Teknion/Transact Commercial Interiors, NorthStar Aerospace, Phoenix Sister Cities: Calvary Committee and Simon Fraser University. Each of these representatives provided students and alumni insight on the opportunities in Canada.
Alain Bernier, Consulate General of Canada shared key instructions on how they could immigrate to Canada where they could continue their studies, find a career or even start a business! Glen Williamson, CEO of the Canada Arizona Business Council shared how Canada is one of the largest foreign direct investors in Arizona by way of Canadian companies and real estate ownership by Canadian-owned companies and citizens. Erin Wilcox, Sales & Marketing Specialist with Teknion/Transact Commercial Interiors, emphasized how important it is for students to understand that they can work for a global company without leaving the Valley. She was a great example of this case! Dr. Sarah Lubik, Director of Entrepreneurship & Innovation with Simon Fraser University, provided a great deep dive into Canada’s Start-Up Visa Program where if you have a qualified business idea, applicants could be granted an expedited visa to establish their new business in Canada.
Overall, this resource fair was a way for students to engage directly with global organizations in countries where they have expressed an interest in working, studying or pursing life after ASU. Our plan is to host such fairs on an annual basis, focusing on a different region each time. Fall 2020 is slated to focus on the European market. We hope you will join us!
